Station Walkthrough
Cairns railway station is located in the Cairns Central Shopping Centre, on the block surrounded by McLeod, Aplin, Bunda and Spence Streets. The station is located parallel to Bunda Street. The car park is in the shopping centre and is accessed via Aplin or Spence Streets. There is accessible parking near the railway station entrance on the Platform 1 side.
The station has two platforms, which are connected via a footbridge, and can be accessed via steps or lifts. The lifts are located near the main entries. Platform 1 is closest to the carpark access. It has the Travel Centre where long distance and Kuranda Scenic Railway tickets can be purchased. Platform 1 is used for the Spirit of Queensland which travels between Cairns and Brisbane. Kuranda Scenic Railway departs from Platform 2 on the Bunda Street side. You can also purchase your Kuranda Scenic Railway ticket on the day of travel between 8.00am and 9.30am at the dedicated ticket office on Platform 2.
On both platforms at Cairns railway station, you will find the following facilities:
- customer seating
- drink fountains
- hearing loops in the areas adjacent to the main entries
- toilets, including an accessible option and baby change facilities, and
- vending machines.
Additional amenities on Platform 1 include:
- a payphone
- luggage trolleys and a
- help phone.
You can access Cairns railway station via the bus stops and taxi zone on Spence and McLeod Streets.
There is no level access to the train itself from the platform. If you need assistance boarding, please let our staff know at the time of booking, and we will be happy to help.
